Brief History

The 9th Regional Community Defense Group, Army Reserve Command traced back its roots from then 134th Home Defense Center, Philippine Army which was activated effective 01 February 1975 pursuant to General Orders Number 461, General Headquarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines dated 30 January 1975 and was assigned to 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army by virtue of General Orders Number 341 dated 14 February 1975.

  When the Army Reserve Command (Provisional) was activated on 01 September 1977, the 134th Home Defense Center form part of its nucleus and after a couple of years, it was renamed 1092nd Provincial Home Defense Center under the 1012th Home Defense Unit. The Army Reserve Command (Provisional) was later deactivated placing the administration and control of the 1092nd Provincial Home Defense Center back to 4th Infantry Division effective 31 March 1986. On 01 July 1986, the 1092nd Provincial Home Defense Center was reassigned to 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army pursuant to General Orders Number 144, Headquarters, Philippine Army dated 01 September 1986.

With the changes that was brought about by the February 1986 revolution, the military organization was in itself reorganized. The 1092nd Provincial Home Defense Center was deactivated and the 9th Regional Community Defense Unit saw its birth effective 01 July 1986 pursuant to section 1, General Orders Number 191, Headquarters, Philippine Army dated 15 July 1986 and placed organic to 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army. On 01 October 1992, the unit was reassigned with Reserve Command, Philippine Army pursuant to General Orders number 835 dated 04 August 1992. It was renamed 9th Regional Community Defense Group effective 01 March 1994 pursuant to General Orders Number 152, Headquarters, Philippine Army dated 23 February 1994.

During those years, the unit was strategically located at barangay Upper Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur until it moved to its present home at Kuta Dao, Pagadian City on 03 November 1993. At present, this group is headed by COL PATRICIO S TOMALES INF (GSC) PA, Group Commander.
