Philippine ROTC Games

The Group in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Higher Educational Institutions, LGUs of Zamboanga Sibugay Province and Dipolog City, formally opened the Inter-provincial qualifying of the Philippine ROTC Games held on July 21-22, 2023 at the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium, Ipil Heights, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province and at JRMSU Gymnasium, Dipolog Campus, Dipolog City. Thereafter, on August 27, 2023, HEIs in the area participated in the first-ever Philippine ROTC Games-Mindanao Regional Qualifying Leg held in Zamboanga City which resulted to 47 ROTC Cadet Athletes won in the 7 events that qualifies them in the National Championships. Remarkably, Cadet Major Jassel Garcia, 1CL ROTC was crowned Miss ROTC-Mindanao.

Eventually, during the National Championships in Manila, the 3×3 Basketball Team from the Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Main Campus emerged as Champion beating all other teams nationwide. Three athletes from Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Cdt. Mary Fe Bagawisan, Won silver medals on Arnis – Women Non Traditional single weapon, while two other athletes from Sibugay Technological Institute Incorporated (STII) Cdt. Edezza Lyne Laja, Ms. Angelie Musa won Silver Medals on Women Bantam Weight and Kick Boxing Low kick category. For bronze medals were Cdt. Shariff Alhamar, on Kick Boxing Lowkick, Weight from Dr. Aurelio Mendoza Memorial College (DAMMC), and Cdt. Kent Declard Lagoy, Arnis- Men’s Full Contact padded stick, Welter weight, from JH Cerilles State College. This shows that athletes from Mindanao particularly from the 9RCDG area possess the skills that are competitive at the national and even international levels.
